Ford Section 179 Tax Deduction
Expanding your fleet of work trucks or vans in 2026? Section 179 may let your Illinois business write off the full cost of a qualifying Ford this tax year.
2026 deduction limit
Applies to new and used equipment (as long as it's new to you), purchased or leased.
2026 spending cap
Above this, your deduction shrinks dollar for dollar, which keeps Section 179 focused on small businesses.
Bonus depreciation
Lets you immediately deduct eligible new and used assets, generally applied after the Section 179 limit.
How Section 179 works
Rather than depreciating a business vehicle over several years, Section 179 lets you deduct the full purchase price of qualifying equipment and vehicles in the year you put them into service. Whether you're growing a landscaping crew, a construction company, or a local delivery route, that can mean real savings on your next Ford.
With the deduction fully phased out once qualifying purchases reach $6,650,000, most Woodstock and McHenry County businesses fall well within the program. Our commercial sales team can walk you through limits, thresholds, and which vehicles fit.
To qualify in 2026, your vehicle must be
-
In service by December 31
Purchased or leased and put into use for your business on or before December 31, 2026.
-
Used mostly for business
Used for business purposes more than 50% of the time.
-
Titled to your company
Titled in the business's name, not the owner's personal name.
Which Ford vehicles qualify?
How much you can deduct depends on the vehicle's type and gross vehicle weight (GVW).
| Vehicle type | 2026 Section 179 deduction |
|---|---|
| New and used vocational trucks and vans | Full deduction up to the $2,560,000 limit |
| Heavy SUVs and trucks over 6,000 lbs GVW | Up to $32,000; pickups with a cargo bed of 6 ft or longer may qualify for the full deduction |
| Cars, light trucks, and SUVs under 6,000 lbs GVW | Limited by IRS first-year depreciation caps for passenger vehicles |
